On that Halloween night, Vic and I snuck out for a treat of our own. It was a very wholesome treat, mind you. We made our way to The Peninsula Lobby to try out (for the second time) the famed chocolate buffet. I think he was forced to go that night when I told him that I can no longer enjoy chocolates once I start nursing Baby #2. Well, it worked. We finally went. What perfect timing it was, too. The lobby was almost deserted. We didn't have to wait in line to try out the chocolate concoctions.
Unlike the first time, we knew what to expect. Unlike the first time, we knew that we could get woozy for over-stuffing ourselves with this aphrodisiac. Unlike the first time, there were no chocolate drinks offered.
Feast your eyes on these little wonders. We came out an hour or so later, aesthetically and gastronomically pleased.
In the picture above, you'll see the Chocolate Panna Cota with Brandied Cherries, moist chocolate cake, fruits in a chocolate shell, an assortment of truffles and chocolate noissette mousse.
My second plate was dedicated to the fondue. The milk chocolate dip is a dead-ringer for Max Brenner's Thick Italian Milk Chocolate (my favorite). The marshmallows tasted as if they're made in-house. They are not as gummy. They easily melt in the mouth. Dried figs, dried papayas, strawberries and mallows were offered to go with the dip. I never thought that dried mangoes worked well with chocolate either.
All that was lacking was an assortment of bread or cookies that are not as rich or luxurious as what they've laid out.
I suggest cleansing one's palate with fruits in between plates. The strawberries and mixed dried fruit (from the fondue) would do. The tea would serve the same purpose as well.
Try out their buffet every Friday and Saturday, from 9PM to 12MN. Buffet price for adults is P550 ++, inclusive of coffee or tea.
