This American holiday is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. The first Thanksgiving meal was a harvest meal shared by the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians in the year 1621. This shared meal was actually a celebration of harvest and a way of giving thanks for the bountiful crops. It eventually became a symbol of cooperation and interaction between the colonists and Native Americans.
Modern Thanksgiving meals are celebrated with loved ones. Oven-baked Turkey is usually the star of the meal. Present day Thanksgiving is more celebrated than Christmas. Though not every person in America (some Filipinos) makes a big deal out of this holiday, it is still very-much anticipated. Apart from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, it is on this day that shops offer the greatest deals and biggest discounts, in-store or online.
It is so amusing that even Philippine retailers are capitalizing on this non-Philippine holiday. I guess, business is not doing well at this time.
Nevertheless, I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
