Thank God for the weekend - Part 2

The Pink Kitchen at the Rockwell Tent

This is an annual event organized by the ICanServe Foundation. Guests are requested to pay a P200 entrance fee as donation. This fee will allow patrons to enjoy cuisines prepared by different renowned chefs.

Vic and I tried to sample what we do not normally eat. Unfortunately, not all food were exceptional. Here are the items we tried out:

* La Tasca's canneloni - The serving size is quite small. I could have gotten two for the price I paid. The dish left an after-taste that I couldn't wash off for some time.

* La Tasca's Paella - This dish tuned out to be very tasty. The serving was also just right for one person.

* Everybody's Cafe's Murcon - It looked very appealing from where I stood. However, it turned out to be very salty and dry for our taste. The cup of rice they served with it tasted like it was the cheapest variety. This is totally not worth the price I paid for both items.

* Dimpy's Frozen Brazo - This was the only thing that I wanted to try out in the event. It certainly didn't disappoint us. Vic ended up getting a second serving for us to share. Those who shared our table was so intrigued that they got for themselves also. Dimpy's frozen brazo is like the cheesecake/ice cream cake version of brazo de mercedes. It has a layer of graham crust, vanilla ice cream, a custard of egg yolks and a final layer of spongy egg whites. It is very rich and very sinful.

*Kanin Club's Turon - I call this Halo-halo disguised as spring roll. It has sliced bananas, ube, macapuno, beans rolled in a crispy wrapper, glazed with mascovado syrup and sesame seeds. It would've been better tasting if we had it while it was still warm.

The event's concept was very unique. We were lucky to try out food we would've missed out on otherwise. However, some chefs took advantage of the event by jacking up the prices too much. It was quite an expensive lunch. I could have easily fed a group of 5 with the amount I shelled out.

If you are a dessert-afficionado like me, I suggest eating lunch before going inside. There are better dessert options and sandwich varieties. That is my opinion alone.

I just thought of it as help to people who need it. It is for a good cause after all. I lost my MIL to breast cancer. I have an aunt who is trying to fight it.

Gratitude Calendar 11/5

I have always been afraid of the dark.  But growing up and becoming a parent, I have learned to overcome that (along with other fears), so that my children will not grow up fearing trivial things.

Luxury Bags in Japan

Since almost everyone I know visited Japan this summer, I would like re-live my visit this year through this post.  This time, I will focus on luxury bags. We've heard about the usual reseller shops that house these luxury brands.  The one I can remember now is Daikokuya. I must've visited almost all reseller shops I've seen on the road.  I've noticed that these shops carry the top 3 popular ones:  Hermes, Chanel and Louis Vuitton.  There still are several pieces of Balenciaga, Valentino, Tory Burch, Celine, Gucci and Michael Kors but not as abundant as the top 3.  I guess what carries the most value are the three popular ones. If you are looking for cheap designer bags, I suggest checking out Don Quixote.  You will usually find on the topmost floors on Donki.  I think this is the one in Shinjuku. I am not so sure. You find them arranged like this or inside locked glass cabinets.  I'm sure the artisans who made these bags will tu...

Gratitude Calendar 2024

I stumbled upon a "challenge" that I thought would be fun and something I can actually do.  I think this will help change my mindset and prepare me for the coming holidays.  Here goes.... Today, I am grateful for the following: 1.  Time for prayer 2.  Convenience of travel and parking when we visited the cemetery 3.  Free lunch
