V Hotel Lavender

When Vic and I went to Singapore a few weekends ago, it wasn't about shopping or being a tourist.  So, usual hotels we're familiar with were beyond convenience.  Besides, the rates would've been hiked up on F1 weekend, so we wouldn't have gone there.

Thankfully, a friend suggested V Hotel Lavender. While most hotels boast of their accessibility through public transport, this one is the most truthful.  Literally located on top of the Lavender MRT station, this is one of the best hotels I've been to, in terms of convenience.  After a day of walking, I am never too tired to walk up to the room.  When we got hungry, there were several bread stores and take-away food stalls, a 24-hr Kopi Tiam, and Wendy's.  At the MRT station, there we convenience stores for drinks, snacks and emergency meds.

We were 4 stops from Orchard Rd, 2 stops from City Hall and 1 stop from Bugis.  It beats having to stay in one of the hotels along Orchard, where we'd have to walk for 10 minutes to get to the hotel.

It had modern facilities, with minimalist interiors.  We stayed in a Superior room that looked like this

It had the basics, the TV, ref, complimentary bottled water, safe, toiletries, hair dryer and towels.  The closet space was adequate for a short-term stay.  It had a ledge by the window for extra seating since there were no other chairs available.

I guess, the trade off for the convenience was the space.  The room is quite tiny and you'd almost always bump into your roommate.

My only complaints were:
(1) There's no exhaust in the bath.   It can get stuffy in there.
(2)  There's only one trash bin.  There's none inside the bath.
(3)  There are no tissues provided in the room.  It can only be found inside the bath.

I'd gladly stay in this hotel when we go back to SG for a visit.  I'd make sure to get a bigger room next time.

Gratitude Calendar 11/5

I have always been afraid of the dark.  But growing up and becoming a parent, I have learned to overcome that (along with other fears), so that my children will not grow up fearing trivial things.

Luxury Bags in Japan

Since almost everyone I know visited Japan this summer, I would like re-live my visit this year through this post.  This time, I will focus on luxury bags. We've heard about the usual reseller shops that house these luxury brands.  The one I can remember now is Daikokuya. I must've visited almost all reseller shops I've seen on the road.  I've noticed that these shops carry the top 3 popular ones:  Hermes, Chanel and Louis Vuitton.  There still are several pieces of Balenciaga, Valentino, Tory Burch, Celine, Gucci and Michael Kors but not as abundant as the top 3.  I guess what carries the most value are the three popular ones. If you are looking for cheap designer bags, I suggest checking out Don Quixote.  You will usually find on the topmost floors on Donki.  I think this is the one in Shinjuku. I am not so sure. You find them arranged like this or inside locked glass cabinets.  I'm sure the artisans who made these bags will tu...

Gratitude Calendar 2024

I stumbled upon a "challenge" that I thought would be fun and something I can actually do.  I think this will help change my mindset and prepare me for the coming holidays.  Here goes.... Today, I am grateful for the following: 1.  Time for prayer 2.  Convenience of travel and parking when we visited the cemetery 3.  Free lunch
