We drove from Vegas to Vallejo. The trip would normally take 8 hours. It took us 12 hours. Since we had senior citizens with us in the car, we had wee-wee breaks every two hours. It was a looooong drive but it was scenic also. We passed through the orchards of Waslo and the cattle ranch beside the freeway. I've never seen an orchard or ranch that spans as far as the eyes can see.
Vallejo, like most cities in the Bay Area, has a very pleasant climate. It looks so lush compared to the dryness and heat of Vegas. I can see that there are lot of Pinoys in the area. One said that this is like the Daly City in SanFo. I agree! Even the servers in the restaurants speak Tagalog.
We're staying at the hotel fronting the Six Flags Theme Park. We can hear the screams of the people in the roller-coaster as we got out of the car. Exciting! I want to try it out too but no one would go with me. Vic would have a heart-attack if he rode with me.
That afternoon we found some time to settle down before the rehearsal dinner. We actually arrived early at the dinner that we decided to get out of the place and explore the area. Apparently, we were just a few minutes away from Napa and Sonoma. My heart skips a beat. I really want to tour one of the vineyards and enjoy the local cuisine.
We went back to the Front Room where the dinner is going to be held. We were served tough steaks. The service was very poor. I really doubted the "Best Restaurant in Vallejo" award they were bestowed. If this is how restaurants are in Vallejo, I pity the residents. The view of the sunset is really nice, though.
Since we didn't get to catch up on sleep, we all slept early. Hence, we woke up really early. My kids were still awake when I got up so we saw them through Skype. It wasn't a long call. One of the Titas wanted to have dimsum in China Town. At 6:30am, we left for SanFo.
We arrived two hours later. Blame it on the Garmin settings. Anyway, we got our dimsum from the lone restaurant that's open at 8am in China Town.
Afterwards, we headed to The Fisherman's Wharf for some sight-seeing. We saw how they made sourdough bread at Boudin.
We walked around till we reached the Powell-Hyde Cable Card Terminal. I was shocked that it already costs $5 each way.
Of course, we went through the usual stops like Ghirardelli, The Chocolate Store and Lombard St. The oldies got a kick out of the drive down the Most Crooked St. in the World. It was blah. We missed the Golden Gate bridge this time. However, we were also lucky enough to see the Philippine Parade go down Market St.
We've been away from home for more than a week now. I am missing my kids already. I spend my down time looking at the pictures. Hay. Ang tagal ko daw umuwi sabi ni Johann. I have to hang on for a few more days.
