I've been posting job ads since December. I've tried national and local publications to get the word out. I'd say this is one of the more difficult aspects of starting and owning a business.
The control-freak in me is helpless. I have no control over people's reactions. I can't will people to apply and show up at interviews. However, I'd like to show you what steps I took to advertise my job opportunities.
1. Manila Bulletin - I chose this publication because it is known for their classified ads. If you are hoping to be included Sunday ads, make sure you have submitted it before the Saturday 12NN deadline.
I got a copy of the boxed lay-out from the Franchiser. Based on the box size, MB gave me the price. I sent out two Sunday ads for the Massage Therapist position.
2. PESO - Every city or municipality has a Public Employment Service Office. One must request to be accredited. Once accredited, I had access to compilations of resumes from High School graduates to College Undergraduates. My job vacancies are also posted in the PESO board. I will also be invited to join the Marikina PESO job fair.
3. Livelihood and Training Center - Marikina PESO referred me to this office. I was able to get permission to post ads in the MLTC Facebook page. This office has a pool of skilled individuals for employers like me.
4. Flyering and Word of Mouth - I asked relatives and friends to handout photocopies of the ad during community gatherings and services. My two staff members were also tasked to distribute flyers in their local barangays.
5. Recruitment Agency - I forgot that my in-laws run a placement agency. Though most of the applicants prefer overseas assignment, I just had to try my luck. Nothing came out of this.
Out of all these venues, I was able to get two staff members.
Yes, it is frustrating. I can't remember how many times I've been stood up. There are times when I just like to pester people through text and email for standing me up.
I thought a lot of people needed jobs in this country? Choosy pa ba sila?
I can't begin to count how much time, effort and money went into this. The only thing that keeps me going is that God will give the right people for the job and that I just have to wait for them.
SO, here I am, still waiting. Sadly, my patience is wearing out.
